Phuket might be on top of your to-see-before-die list. Last week, travel section of the New York Times has upgraded Phuket as one of the world’s 44 “most compelling destinations” to visit in 2009. See the rankings here.

Furthermore, The island is announced as the World Number One Luxury Destination… well, for 2009 at least. Believers and doubters should visit here for affirmation.

Here’s a part of the article.
“A paradise of mangroves, tropical islands and emerald coves set in electric-blue waters, the Andaman Coast is one of the world’s best-known beach destinations. It includes the island province of Phuket, the spectacular small island Ko Phi Phi, hopping Rai Le Beach and more sedate Khao Lak. Its vacation options range from some of the most luxe accommodations on the planet.”
